Leary & Hatfield Win Guntersville Ram Trucks 100% Plus Team Event
The team of Jim Leary and Steve Hatfield won the Alabama division Ram Trucks 100% Plus Team Tour event on March 26, 2016 at Lake Guntersville. Leary and Hatfield weighed in a whopping 31.15 pounds to win a new 2016 Triton Boats 17TX with a Mercury 60hp four stroke outboard, Garmin Echomap units, Motorguide trolling motor, Power Pole, and a host of T-H Marine products valued at $20,000. The team also won $1150 from the High Stakes Option Pot.
“First cast, my trolling motor stop working. I stopped to fix it and when I reeled my bait in, I had one of our big ones on. Then, we hit a bit of a dry spell,” said Leary.
“We caught them on swimbaits and Chatterbaits, fishing drains and spawning areas. We caught them early and then, it got tough on us. Then, we went a little deeper and were able to cull a few more times. We caught our fish anywhere from 6-9 feet of water,” said Hatfield.
Cameron Gautney and Billy Mitchell finished in second place with 28.87 pounds to take home a check for $2550 for second place and $600 from the High Stakes Option Pot.
“The majority of the fish we caught came on a Profound Outdoors Shaker Z in Aztec color. The biggest fish was caught using a Z Boss 10. We caught fish in 4-8 feet of water. We only had one fish this morning, so the afternoon definitely picked up for us,” said Gautney.
Third place in the Alabama division event went to the team of Grant Hopson and Wes Ward with a 22.51 pound limit. Hopson and Ward earned $1700 for third place.
“We caught everything we weighed in off of the bed. We pretty much used a worm on a drop shot all day. It was a pretty good day. We got to cull a few times to get to the weight that we had,” said Ward.
The team of Tom Frink and Justin Marlow caught the $500 Leer Big Bass of the event weighing 10.94 pounds. The Big Bass came on a Strike King Minus Grub, sight fishing.
