How John started fishing
While in the Air Force at Whiteman AFB they had intramural Bass tournaments, I would bring in donuts to get half the day off work to go fish the tournaments
Aspirations or goals with fishing
To learn everytime I'm with a new boater and be able to improve on my fishing.
Favorite way to fish
Top water, but from the back of the boat I have started to really like Wacky Worms
Most exciting fishing experience
While living in OK fishing a club tournament with my son, we caught a 7lber and 9lber with in 15 minutes. Same tournament my son missed one that would have been in the 10lb range. but still a great day 5 fish for 19 1/2 pounds with 2 12inch fish
How John preps for a tournament
Since I fish from the back of the boat I pretty much have a huge tackle box that I check to ensure I have at least 3 of each lure I'm bringing with me. the night before I will also check my line on the rods I bring with me.
Three favorite search baits
Best tournament finish and what you did that day when you were fishing.
1st in a club tournament, Early spring and I threw a jerkbait and wacky worm all day.
Most challenging part of tournament fishing
From the back of the Boat it's having to follow a boater that hits every visible target, and having the back of the boat not in the position that makes for easy cast. I have been lucky and every boater I have drawn to date has been a pleasure to fish with
When tournaments don't go my way
Happens often, just try and learn from the boater that I fished with that day. Still enjoy the day of fishing, it could be worse by being stuck in the house doing nothing.
Advice to give to an aspiring tournament angler:
Watch the people that you fish with and don't be afraid to ask them questions on why they choose the lure and area they picked.
