Tight Race for Butcher and Killion
Cold 29 degree start for ABA D58 2022 season opener at Big Hill Lake November 13, 2021 turned into sunny skies with temperature topping out at 53. Mike Butcher and Max Killion fought it out with Butcher taking the win-12.25 lbs and Killion right behind-12.24 lbs. Eric Craft took 3rd-11.78 lbs and Mark Moody was 4th-1.54. John Vanderpool was a close 5th with 11.40 lbs. Killion's 5.33 lb largemouth took Big Bass; Moody weighed in a 4.37 lb bass for 2nd BB.
Cash and local sponsor prizes were awarded from Alber’s Marine, Bud;s Baits, Crawford County C & V, Double M Reel Service, Labette County Tourism, Mid-Kansas Marine, Pete’s Convenience Stores, and Taco Mayo of Parsons and Coffeyville.
American Bass Anglers is a national tournament circuit with 40 divisions across the country. There are several divisions in Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma and Arkansas. Boaters and non-boaters from age 14 are encouraged to participate. ABA membership is $35/365 days; entry fee is $70. Most divisions have a Big Bass option pot. The points champion from each division will compete in the annual American Bass Anglers AFT Angler of The Year Final Round at the AFT Championship. In addition, the top 500 anglers from the various divisions will earn the right to compete in the three-day ABA, AFT National Championship tournament.
The American Fishing Tour offers low cost, close to home bass tournaments that are designed for the weekend angler. All anglers fish for both money and points. The points advance the angler to their divisional championship and the top 500 anglers in the US are invited to the American Fishing Tour National Championship next fall on Alabama’s Lake Eufaula.
