D58 Hosts McConnell AFB
Travel restrictions made for a low turn-out of McConnell AFB airmen, but those who were able to make it, enjoyed the day on the water with an ABA angler. They camped Friday and Saturday night at the Mound Valley camp site and reported “It’s the best place to camp. We’ll be back next year.”
Joseph Yocum fished with Loren Graves and won Airman 1st place and Big Bass. He had 11.38 lbs anchored with the big one that went 4.5 lbs. John Vanderpool guided Matthew LeBrun to 2nd place with 8.13 lbs; 3rd place went to Jacob Dalzell who fished with Kirk Kelly and had 6.88 lbs. Pictures are posted at www.centralmidwestbass.com.
D58 anglers caught more than 70 bass. First and 2nd place was close with Kelly taking 1st, weighing in 15.43 lbs. Close behind was John Vanderpool with 15.04. Terry Knueppel took 3rd with 13.90 lbs. Everyone caught fish. The big ones were hard to find. Big Bass went to Vanderpool with 4.59; 2nd BB went to Mack Hale with 4.33 lbs.
Besides cash, anglers took home $300 worth of draw prizes and gift cards donated by several local sponsors including Albers Marine of Arma, KS, Buds Baits of Carthage and Joplin, Crawford County C & V Pittsburg, KS, Pete’s Convenience Store in Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma, Double M Reel Service of Girard, Mid-Kansas Marine of Andover, Labette County Tourism, Meridian Imaging of Parsons, Quality Printing of Parsons, and Taco Mayo of Parsons and Coffeyville.
The Big Hill 2-day Championship will be October 9-10, 2021. Anglers qualify for the Championship by fishing at least four 1-day tournaments; these 1-day tournaments can be in any ABA Division (there are several in the area). The Championship tournament will determine a Big Hill “Angler of the Year,” a Big Hill “Champion” and a Big Hill “Big Bass of the Year.”
The ABA National Championship will be help on Kerr Lake, Virginia October 20-23, 2021.
American Bass Anglers is a National Trail with almost 40 Divisions across the country. It is run in draw format. Boaters and non-boaters from age 14 are encouraged to compete. These anglers accrue valuable points toward the Divisional Angler of the Year title. The points champion from each division will compete in the annual American Bass Anglers AFT Angler of The Year Final Round at the AFT Championship. In addition, the top 500 anglers from the various divisions will earn the right to compete in the three-day Bass Pro AFT National Championship tournament at Kerr Reservoir Virginia in October.

Kenny Turner Takes the Win on Lay Lake
September 24, 2022, Clanton, AL. Twenty-three anglers launched from Flatlands Boat Launch near Clanton, AL. Eight of those anglers brought back five-fish limits to the scales, but when the scales closed Kenny Turner of Billingsley, AL took the victory with 11.57 pounds. For the victory, Turner took home $579 in prize money.
Fristik Pulls Out A Big Win On Lake Oneida
BREWERTON, N.Y. – Henry J. Fristik came from behind with a big bag on the final day to win the Boater Division of the American Bass Anglers Open Series, Presented by Caymas Boats, 2-day Area 9 Championship, held Sept. 24-25, 2022, on Oneida Lake.
Matetzsc Wins Top 150 Solo Series Wildcard
JACKSON, Miss – William “Taz” K. Matetzsc won the ABA Top 150 Solo Series Wildcard Tournament, Presented by Caymas Boats, held Sept. 9-10, 2022, on Ross Barnett Reservoir near Jackson, Miss. The anglers ran out of Madison Landing in Ridgeland, Miss. to fish the 33,000-acre impoundment. With two solid days of good fishing, Matetzsc from Blairsville, Ga. won the Wildcard by nearly three pounds. He finished with two daily 5-bass tournament limits to take the victory with 23.97 pounds.
