Whitehead Takes Win at Weiss Lake
ATHENS, Ala. – Jason Whitehead win’s the 2021 Bass Pro Shop Open Series North Alabama Division Tournament, held May 22nd on Weiss Lake. We had 41 boaters with 27 co-anglers for the third stop of the season.
Running out of Leesburg Landing in Leesburg Al. Jason Whitehead of Arab Alabama wins the third stop, he caught 5 fish for 15.30 lbs., he also had big fish for 4.94 lbs. For the boater division victory, Whitehead took home a check for $2300 for his win.
“I started out upriver had caught a couple on a swim jig. At lunchtime decided to run back down to the lower end of the lake and started fishing a shaky head. I was able to cull twice there,” said Whitehead.
In second place for the boater, Tracy Robertson of Gadsden Al. had 5 fish for 13.48 lbs. “I caught my fish from 0 to 20 feet deep. Caught some frog early then went to fishing wood and brush piles. I caught my fifth keeper with about 20 minutes to go on a 6XD,” said Robertson.
In third place for the boaters, Park Gettys of Paris Tn. Had 5 fish for 13.23 lbs. “I started out shallow then when the sun came out to fishing about 10 foot deep. I managed to catch mine a 6XD and a Carolina rig,” said Gettys.
Edmond Brown of Trion Ga had 3 fish for 8.39 lbs. to take the win on the Co-Angler side and had the Co-Angler big fish with 4.41 lbs and pocketed a check for $750.00. “I had good boater for the day, I mainly caught my fish skipping under boat docks fishing a senko,” said Brown.
In second place for the Co-Anglers was Mike Young of Suwanee Ga. Had 3 fish for 5.66 lbs.
“I caught my first fish at our first stop on a brush hog and did not catch another till the last hour caught 2 on a shaky head,” said Young.
In third place for the Co-Anglers, Roy Galbraith of Guin Al. had 3 fish for 5.55 lbs.“I caught 1 on a shaky head, 1 on a Carolina rig, and caught my last fish on the last cast on a crankbait,” said Galbraith.
The next stop in the North Alabama Open Series division is June 12th on Neely Henry lake at City Launch in Gadsen, Al. This will be the final stop for the season before the 2 day regional. At the end of the season, the best anglers from across the nation advance the 2022 Ray Scott Championship to be held at Lake Eufaula in April 2022.

Joseph Yocum fished with Loren Graves and won Airman 1st place and Big Bass. He had 11.38 lbs anchored with the big one that went 4.5 lbs. John Vanderpool guided Matthew LeBrun to 2nd place with 8.13 lbs; 3rd place went to Jacob Dalzell who fished with Kirk Kelly and had 6.88 lbs. Pictures are posted at www.centralmidwestbass.com.
Chad & Toni Prough Win Bass Pro Shops Couples Series National Championship Event on Lake Eufaula
ATHENS, Ala. –The team of Chad and Toni Prough of Chipley, FL won the Bass Pro Shops Couples Series National Championship event held on Lake Eufaula on 10/7-8/2021. On day one, the team sacked up a five bass limit weighing 17.43 pounds. On day two, the team caught another five bass limit weighing 11.44 pounds for a total of 28.87 pounds. For the win, the Proughs took home $2,500.00 and an additional $500 for using Garmin units on their boat.
Team Tour Championship Postponed
Out of an overabundance of caution The Team Tour Championship that was scheduled for 10/10-11/2020 on Wheeler Lake has be postponed. The National Weather Service is forecasting winds of 10-20 mph with gust up to 35mph for Saturday, and winds of 10-15 mph with gust up to 20 mph Sunday. The safety of our anglers is the number on concern and factor when making the tough decisions on postponing a tournament. The new dates for the Team Tour Championship will be November 21-22 on Wheeler Lak
