Kerr Lake has a special limit sizing of bass so this is especially important to read and understand as we will allow the Kerr Lake limit.
The rule reads simply as this: (Source: https://dwr.virginia.gov/waterbody/buggs-island-lake-kerr-reservoir/#regulations )
Black Bass (Largemouth, Smallmouth & Spotted)
- 5 per day in aggregate
- Only 2 of 5 bass less than 14 inches can be kept.
So, it is particularly important to understand the following:
- All bass weighed in must be over 12 inches.
- You may only have two bass in possession that are over 12 and under 14 inches, the remaining three in a limit must be 14 inches or greater.
The 2021 Bass Pro Shops Champion will receive a Triton/Mercury Boat package valued at over $60,000. The angler of the year will also a Triton/Mercury Boat package valued at over $60,000. An angler cannot win more than one boat at this event, so if the AOY and the Champion are the same person second place will win the Triton/Mercury Boat package, and first place would receive second place payout.
A cash payout will go through 15% of the field as well as the individual awards of 2021 Hall of Fame, Service Team Awards, and Draw Prizes, which will be given away.
Off-limits for this event begin October 3, 2021 at sunset and will continue through Saturday, October 16 at safe daylight. During this off-limits period, Practice, and competition days, other than using publicly available information (e.g., newspaper, periodical, and Internet reports) competitors cannot solicit, receive or gather any information via phone, electronic devices or any other means about locating or catching fish on tournament waters.
Kerr Lake is an impoundment on the Roanoke River and is often referred as Buggs Island. Congress enacted to build John H Kerr dam (pronounced Car). The naming of the lake after and North Carolina congressman so angered the Virginia state legislature in 1952 they required the body of water to “forever more” be know as Buggs Island. So, you will see state signs with Buggs Island on them. Kerr Lake has 850 miles of shoreline, which provides a lot of space for anglers to find feeding bass. There are more than 20 boat access ramps along the lake and plenty of restaurants, hotels, and several campgrounds in the area.
Kerr Lake staddles the border of Virginia and North Carolina and either license is accepted. We encourage you to bring your family to this championship, as there is a lot for family to do at this event, and it is a beautiful area in Virginia.
