Morgan Wins Florida South Event on Lake Okeechobee
ATHENS, Ala. – Justin Morgan won the Bass Pro Shops Open Series Florida South tournament held May 15th on Lake Okeechobee.
Running out of Scott Driver Park in Okeechobee, FL the Okeechobee, FL angler caught five bass weighing 28.42 pounds. For the Boater Division victory, Morgan took home a check for $2600 for his win.
“It started off pretty good this morning. I was throwing a SPRO popping frog and caught one good fish then I changed locations and threw a Bass Assassin RSB worm and caught two good ones on that. I made a 20-minute run this morning. I would like to thank all the people that support me and my sponsors.” Morgan said.
In second for the boaters, Jai Hunter Sr of Deland, FL landed a five-bass tournament limit going 21.98 pounds.
“I caught my fish on luck today. We stopped at a few spots this morning that didn’t produce any fish then we changed locations and my co-angler threw a spinnerbait and caught a big fish and we sat on that spot the rest of the day. I caught a few fish on a spinnerbait and the rest on a crankbait.” Hunter said.
Norris Newhouse of Okeechobee, FL took third for the boaters with five bass going 21.56 pounds.
“I was pitching and flipping all day around bulrush.” Newhouse said.
Finishing fourth, Bryan Moore of Okeechobee, FL landed a five-bass limit for 19.80 pounds.
Barry Edie of Lakeland, FL rounded out the top five boaters with five bass at 19.56 pounds that included a 7.82-pound big bass. Edie collected $560 for the big bass award.
“I caught that big bass on a sea wall first thing this morning in Taylor creek on a June bug worm. “Edie said.
In the Co-Angler Division, Robert Oakley of Land o Lakes, FL won with three bass going 14.38 pounds that included a 5.93-pound kicker. He pocketed a check for $1300 for his win.
“I was fishing slow throwing a 10” worm, a Gambler Fat Ace, and a trick worm. It was rough this morning but around 10:00am it turned on.” Oakley said.
Taking second for the co-anglers, Anthony Gioffre of Dublin, OH brought in a three-bass division limit weighing 13.80 pounds.
“I caught my fish on a spinnerbait, a crankbait, and a chatter-bait today. We were fishing a rockpile in open water. It was loaded.” Gioffre said. “
Daniel Monahan of Melbourne, FL placed third among the co-anglers with three bass going 12.96 pounds.
“I caught my fish today on a June bug worm and a Gambler Fat Ace. It was a scattered bite and I only landed four fish today.” Monahan said.
In fourth place among the co-anglers, Aaron Gengler of Lakeland, FL brought in three bass for 12.04 pounds. Dale Tomlinson of Lake Worth, FL finished in fifth place with three bass for 12.00 pounds.
The big bass award for the co-anglers went to Frank “Trey” Davis of West Palm Beach, FL for a big bass that weighed 7.47-pounds. Davis collected $280 for that catch.
“I caught that big bass flipping grass late in the day.” Davis said.
Slated for October 2nd & 3rd , the next tournament will be held the 2-Day Area Championship on Lake Okeechobee out of Roland Martin Marina & Resort in Clewiston, FL. At the end of the season, the best anglers from across the nation advance the 2022 Ray Scott Championship to be held at Lake Eufaula in April, 2022.

Mark Watkins wins D6 Two Day and AOY
ATHENS, Al. – Mark Watkins won the two day shortened Bass Pro American Fishing Tour presented by American Bass Anglers, Connecticut Division 6 tournament, held on Lake Lillinonah. Mark only caught three largemouth for 11.13 pounds, but they were the right ones. With that win Mark also became the Division 6 Angler of the Year for the second year in a row. For the victory he took home $674.00 in cash.
Whitehead Takes Win at Weiss Lake

Team Tour Championship Postponed
Out of an overabundance of caution The Team Tour Championship that was scheduled for 10/10-11/2020 on Wheeler Lake has be postponed. The National Weather Service is forecasting winds of 10-20 mph with gust up to 35mph for Saturday, and winds of 10-15 mph with gust up to 20 mph Sunday. The safety of our anglers is the number on concern and factor when making the tough decisions on postponing a tournament.
