Mississippi Back on Ross Barnett
June 22, 2020, Athens, AL. After a huge break due to COVID-19 Bass Pro Shops will host an Open Series tournament June 27 on Lake Ross Barnett. on 1,000 Islands out of Ticonderoga, NY. This is the second event for the Bass Pro Shops Open Series Mississippi Division 2020 season. The tournament will launch out of Tommys Trading Post located at 4238 MS-43 Brandon, MS.
This time last year, Ed Dunnaway of Flowood, MS won the Bass Pro Shops Open Series Mississippi divisional held June 22nd on Ross Barnett Reservoir. Dunnaway caught five-bass weighing 19.33-pounds and took home a check for $5000 for his win and $640 for his big bass of 6.11 lbs.
“Well, I actually got on a bite this week that I had confidence in. I like to throw crankbaits, I like to throw Carolina Rigs, but I found a pattern with dead-sticking a big worm and slow. I wasn’t getting a lot of bites but they were quality. I had 7 bites today by 1 in one spot and about 14 lbs. I made a move and caught a 4.50. I sat down and re-rigged my rod, took my time, made another cast, and that’s when I caught the 6.11. After that, I was done. I was ready to come to weigh in so I did.” Dunnaway said.
Stringent guidelines of social distancing will be used and enforced that these events and all anglers would read and follow ABA guidelines that will be applied to events from this link.
BPS Open Series offers $5000 first place for 60 boats. Boater Entry Fee for the Bass Pro Shops Open Series is $210, Co-Angler entry fee is $105.

Tom and Missy take the win and the GLine Battery $100 Bounty on Cooper River
We couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful day on the Cooper River with mild temperatures and sunny skies! We had eight teams come out to compete with every team bringing fish to the scales. Several teams commented on how clear the water was and how many big bass they watched swimming but couldn’t get to bite. It seems that the most productive bite was on crank baits and worms.
Tom and Missy Bancroft took First Place with 5 largemouth bass weighing 8.15 lbs. earning $360. We caught our bass on crankbaits in the morning and shaky head worms in the afternoon.
Seeing Red in the Winter Brings Rattling Action
In late winter and early spring, many anglers throw red-colored lures, particularly rattle baits, crankbaits, and soft plastics. So many people fish red temptations around Lake Sam Rayburn in Texas and Toledo Bend on the Texas-Louisiana line that many companies now sell “Rayburn red” colors in their lure selections -- red with gold stripes and some orangish-yellow added.
Team Tour Championship Postponed
Out of an overabundance of caution The Team Tour Championship that was scheduled for 10/10-11/2020 on Wheeler Lake has be postponed. The National Weather Service is forecasting winds of 10-20 mph with gust up to 35mph for Saturday, and winds of 10-15 mph with gust up to 20 mph Sunday. The safety of our anglers is the number on concern and factor when making the tough decisions on postponing a tournament.
