Bass Pro Shops Opens Ross Barnett this Saturday
Athens, AL. The Bass Pro Shops Open Series in Mississippi kicks off Saturday February 15 on Ross Barnett in Jackson, MS. The tournament will launch out of Tommy’s Trading Post with Registration being held at Bass Pro Shops in Pearl, MS Friday night from 4pm – 6:30pm with a pairing and safety meeting immediately following at 7pm.
Ross Barnett is known for big bass and big strings of fish in local tournaments. At this same event in 2019, Ray King of Brandon, MS brought a five fish limit weighing 26.55 with a 7.47 pound big bass. Ray took home a total of $6310 for the win and big bass.
Ray shows things come to those who work for it. “I was down south fishing the big lake offshore between 5-6 feet. Lots of boats went up the river. Truth be told I really struggled today, I didn’t have my 2nd fish until 1:00. I only had 5 bites all day and never culled. My biggest fish (7.47-lbs) was caught at 1:30. And the rest were about 30 minutes in between. At noon I thought this wasn’t going to be my day but man I was wrong,” Ray said.
Second place was not far behind Ray. Larry Rochelle of Canton. MS brought in 23.84. “I started early and caught them all day. There were some good fish in the area I was in and I just had to stay with it and push through them to get the good ones. I culled 6 or 7 times and caught all my fish on a chatterbait and a spinnerbait,” Larry said.
