Wilson Wins $7720.00 in Area 8 Championship on Kerr Lake

ATHENS, Ala. – Jason Wilson of Lincolnton, NC, won the Bass Pro Shops Open Series Area 8 Championship held September 28th and 29th, 2019 on Kerr Lake.  Running out of Nutbush Park in Henderson NC Wilson weighed in a two-day total of 10 bass weighing 28.65 pounds including the boater big bass weighing 6.50 pounds. Wilson took home a total of $7720.00 for the win and big bass.

“On day one I had one bass on a topwater bait, two on a drop shot and two on a shakey head. On day two I caught all my bass on a jig. I caught the big bass around 2:00 fishing a log,” Wilson said. 

Taking second for the boaters Flash Butts of Roanoke Rapids, NC landed a two-day total of 10 bass weighing 25.29 pounds.  

“I caught all my bass fishing a topwater bait,” Butts said. 

Taking third for the boaters Randy Childers of Anderson, SC weighed in a total of 10 bass weighing 24.56 pounds.  

“I caught my bass for both days on a fluke fishing main lake and main lake pockets,” said Childers.    

In fourth place for the boaters Christopher Baumgardner of Gastonia, NC weighed in a two-day total of 10 bass weighing 23.86 pounds. Rounding out the top five, Eddie Fore of Rustburg, VA weighed in a two-day total of 10 bass weighing 23.53 pounds. 

In the co-angler division Jesse Jodon of Windber, PA weighed in a two-day total of six bass weighing 14.81 pounds including the co-angler big bass weighing 4.94 pounds. Jodon took home a total of $2020.00 for the win and big bass.

“Every fish I caught in the tournament came on a Carolina rig,” Jodon said.

In second place for the co-anglers Christian Johnson of Denver, NC weighed in a two-day total of six bass weighing 13.51 pounds.  

“On day one I caught some of my fish including my bigger fish on a crankbait. I was able to cull throughout the day with a senko. On day two I caught all my keepers on the senko in two foot of water,” said Johnson.

Taking third for the co-anglers Alex Ortiz of Asheboro, NC weighed in a two-day total of 5 bass weighing 12.11 pounds.

“On day one I caught fish on a jerk bait and a fluke. On day two I caught fish on a fluke and a lizard,” said Ortiz.

In fourth place for the co-anglers, Chris Anderson of Mooresville, NC weighed in a two-day total of six bass weighing 11.85 pounds.  Rounding out the top five, Dylan Smith of Morganton, NC weighed in a two-day total of six bass weighing 11.72 pounds.
