Southeast Texas Opener on Sam Rayburn
ATHENS, Ala. – The South Texas Division of the 2019 Bass Pro Shops Open Series presented by American Bass Anglers will open the season on February 23, 2019, on Sam Rayburn.
The lake has consumed all Mother Nature threw at her in January. The banks are swollen with record high water levels, but she is recovering and recovering well with bag weights already busting over 34 lbs. With numerous ramp locations remaining closed, we have recently learned that some have opened for business and we will be returning to the Umphrey Family Pavilion for this first tournament of the season. Located at 3967 Recreation Rd 255, Brookeland, TX the Umphrey Family Pavilion is waiting for our return.
The competitors will launch at Umphrey Family Pavilion. Anglers will begin fishing at safe light (Set by the tournament director) and the weigh-in will begin at 3:00 PM.
On-site registration is Friday, Feb 22nd from 4:30-6:30 PM local time at the Umphrey Pavilion with the tournament briefing starting at 7:00 PM.

Anglers fishing the Boater Division may weigh in up to five bass, each at least 14 inches for Largemouth and Co-anglers may weigh in up to three bass of the same length limits.
To enter, anglers fishing the Boater Division pay $210 with co-anglers paying $105. The payout for all events will be based on the number of entries, for one-day divisional events, $5000 will go the winning boater based on a minimum of 60 boats, for each 2-day Area Championship $10,000 for boaters and $5,000 for co-anglers based on 100 boats. Anglers fishing the Boater Division may weigh in up to five bass and Co-anglers may weigh in up to three bass.
In addition to cash and prizes for top finishers, boater and co-angler competitors may also win contingency bonuses from such sponsors as Triton Boats, Mercury Outboards, MotorGuide, T-H Marine, Power Pole, Berkley and ABU Garcia. Barry & Romaine Descaro win on Savannah River despite Tough Conditions
We all expected Floodwaters on the Savannah River to make for a tough bite. Therefore, we were not surprised that only 3 of the 7 couples brought fish to the scales. Barry & Romaine worked hard to bring 3 fish that weighed in at 4.90 lbs. to win $315 for 1st Place. Barry anchored their winning bag with men’s big fish at 1.93 lbs.
High Water at Ross Barnett
ATHENS, Al. – Taylor Odom of Flowood, MS won the Bass Pro Shops Open Series Mississippi divisional opener held February 15th on Ross Barnett Reservoir. Running out of Tommy’s Trading Post, Taylor caught five-bass weighing 17.40-pounds. Torrential rains brought on high water conditions up-river, but due to the multi-year drawdown on Ross Barnett, the reservoir was full, and the anglers were given conditions they typically don’t see. For the Boater Division victory, Taylor took home a check for $5000 for his win.
John Rice and Paul Arnold Take Home Two New Tritons at Chickamauga
John Rice of Huntsville, Al and Paul Arnold of Woodville, Al. won the Bass Pro Shops Team Tour Championship, held October 5th and 6th on Lake Chickamauga. Launching out of Dayton Boat Dock and Grill. John and Paul went straight to work and caught a two-day limit of 10 bass weighing 36.51 pounds. For their victory, the team took home 2 Triton TX-17 boats equipped with 60 HP Mercury outboards and Garmin electronics valued at $40,000.
