Florida South Returns to Lake Okeechobee

ATHENS, Ala. – The Florida South Division of the 2019 Bass Pro Shops Open Series operated by American Bass Anglers will returns on February 9, 2019, on Lake Okeechobee in Okeechobee, FL.

The competitors will launch at Scott Driver Park, located at 10100 W Hwy 78, Okeechobee, FL 34974. Anglers may begin fishing at 6:45 a.m. or safe light. The weigh-in will begin at 3:00 p.m. Registration begins at 4 p.m. local time at Scott Driver Park with the tournament briefing to begin at 7:00 p.m. Friday evening.

To enter, anglers fishing the Boater Division pay $210 with co-anglers paying $105. The payout for all events will be based on the number of entries, for one-day divisional events, $5000 will go to the wining boater based on a minimum of 60 boats, for each 2-day Area Championship $10,000 for boaters and $5,000 for co-anglers based on 100 boats. Anglers fishing the Boater Division may weigh in up to five bass, each at least 12 inches long with an exemption permit available at registration. Co-anglers may weigh in up to three bass. 

In addition to cash and prizes for top finishers, boater and co-angler competitors fishing this tournament and Bass Pro Shops Open Series events throughout the season may also win contingency bonuses from such sponsors as Triton Boats, Mercury Outboards, MotorGuide, T-H Marine, Nitro Boats, Tracker Marine, Berkley and Power Pole. Reeves Takes the win on Lake Istokpoga

The wind blew Saturday and it rained off and on all day Sunday (hard), even at the weigh-in.  But we had the best day fishing this year, six contestants weighed in over 103 lbs.  Brain Reeves of Sebring, FL won the Bass Pro Shops Fishing Tour D28 two-day tournament held April 25th.  Running out of Windy Point Ramp Brain brought back a two-day total weight of 34.18-lbs. anchored with a nice 7.63-lb kicker.  For the win, he took home $588.

Patrick Dobbins of Opelika, AL won the Bass Pro Shops Open Series Alabama South Division tournament, held June 27th on Logan Martin.  Running out of Lakeside Park in Pell City, AL Dobbins caught five bass weighing 15.97 pounds that included a big bass that weighed 4.21pounds.  For the Boater Division victory, Dobbins took home a check for $2400 for his win and an additional $470 for that big bass.
