Dan Gonsalves wins at Long Pond
Air temps were in the low 50s when the anglers registered for the tournament at Long Pond, Freetown, MA on Sunday, June 3rd, 2018. I guess Mother Nature doesn't realize it's late Spring and we do need warmer temps to make it through the tournament year. However, it did make it to the upper 50s and the water temps were in the middle 60s. All reports indicated the bite was off, the spawn was over and judging from the weights, it was a slow & frustrating day for most of the competing anglers.
When it was all said & done, Dan Gonsalves came in w/the winning bag at 11.89 lbs. anchored by the kicker fish of the day at 3.68 lbs. largemouth, just edging out Eric Johnson's fish by .01 oz. Dan had 6 bites all day on a black jig in 6 feet of water, on offshore weeds beds and rock piles.
We had a total of 45 bass weighed in w/a combined weight of 79.25 lbs. for an average weight per fish at 1.76 lbs.
The top winning anglers were:
1st Place: Dan Gonsalves - 5 fish - 11.89 lbs.
2nd place: Dan Rose - 5 fish - 10.92 lbs.
3rd place: Chris Heltemes - 4 fish - 8.51 lbs. (Non-boater)
Our next tournament will be the Division 5 two-day championship on June 23 & 24, 2018 and will be contested at Mashpee/Wakeby Pond, Mashpee, Ma on Day #1 and on Day #2 at South Watuppa Pond, Fall River, MA. To register for this event, you need to have fished 4 one-day tournaments. So, if you've qualified, register w/ Director Dan Rose at [email protected].
