Billy Barrett wins at Mashpee/Wakeby
A full field of anglers ventured out on Sunday, May 6, 2018 on Mashpee/Wakeby Pond, Mashpee, MA. Cool air temps greeted all at registration but as the sun rose, air temps went to the mid 60s and bright sunny skies and a SSE wind at 10-15 mph was the order for most of the day. However, the mid afternoon skies darkened, the wind shifted to the north and the rain showers dominated the weigh in.
We had a total of 75 small mouth and large mouth bass weighed in with a combined weight of 186.99 lbs. for an average weight per fish of 2.49 lbs. Because of the cooler water temps in the high 50s, small mouth were on a feed & in a pre-spawn mode. Many 3+ and 4+ smallies were weighed in but the big bass of the day was a 6.10 lbs. large mouth weighed in by hog master Paul Leblanc and he was awarded $100.00. The 4.64 lbs. small mouth was weighed in by Asst. Director Steve Peck and he was awarded the Bass Pro Shops gift certificate for his effort.
When the scales were closed, Billy Barrett was declared the Champion and received 1st place money at $543.00 for his limit bag at 16.03 lbs. anchored by a 3.58 lbs. smallie. Bill stated he had just 5 bites all day & caught his fish in 10-12 feet of water on a tube bait. Our congrats go out to Billy for a fine effort and was welcomed back from his Florida winter residence.
The top money winners were:
1st place: Billy Barrett - 5 fish - 16.03 lbs.
2nd place: Dan Tavilla - 5 fish - 15.93 lbs.
3rd place: Jay Guidaboni - 5 fish - 15.91 lbs.
