Mike Dill Wins Stockton Lake ABA Tournament
To say the bite on Stockton May 13 was a little tough is an understatement. Twenty American Bass Anglers took out from Old State Park Ramp at 6:30 a.m. Only one of them returned with a 5-fish limit of bass. The Greenfield, MO angler Mike Dill took the win with that limit weighing 13.41 lbs, anchored with second biggest bass weighing 4.37 pounds largemouth.
Second place went to Kansas angler, Eric Craft with four fish that weighed 7.52 lbs.
Mitchell Blehm took 3rd with 6.29 lbs.
Randy Scott was 4th with 5.81 lbs which included Big Bass of the tournament, a 4.43 lb largemouth. Full results with pictures can be seen at www.centralmidwestbass.com.
Recent rains have brought the water level from a few feet low to 10’ high. The flooding has caused the water clarity to be stained to dirty depending on which part of the lake you go. Fish were found in the flooded bushes. Anglers reported using soft plastic “beaver” style baits, as well as jigs and senkos. The winning strings came from the mid-lake area where the water was clearer.
This was one tournament in a series of tournaments conducted by American Bass Anglers, Division 126, all held on Stockton Lake. This series is a draw format and designed for the week-end angler, boaters and non-boaters. An ABA membership costing $25 per year is required and allows anglers to fish any ABA tournament. The entry fee for D126 tournaments is $70/angler; a $10 Big Bass option pot is offered.
The next event will be June 3, 2017 on Stockton Lake using Old State Park as the launch site. The full 2017 schedule can be seen at www.centralmidwestbass.com. The season will culminate with a 2-day Championship, also on Stockton Lake, June 24-25, 2017.
Anglers fish each tournament for points, cash and prizes from area sponsors including Ken’s Kafe, Pete’s Convenient Stores, the Outboard Doctor, Albers Marine, Happy O’s, Legacy Farm & Lawn and Antlers Ridge. Points qualify anglers to fish the above mentioned 2-day on Stockton Lake as well as the American Bass Anglers AFT National Championship set for October 18-20, 2017 on the Quachita River at Monroe, LA.
