Bolton Takes the Title at Columbus Pool
Brandon Bolton won the American Bass Anglers Ram Truck Open Series Mississippi Division tournament, held May 13th on the Columbus Pool.
Running out of Columbus Marina in Columbus, Mississippi the West Point angler caught five bass weighing 16.02 pounds anchored by a 6.33 pound fish. For the Boater Division victory, Bolton took home a check for $5000.00
“It was a tough day. I had 4 in the box by 8:30, I was sweating it out and had other bites but they were short. My last keeper came around 11:00. I caught all of them on topwater but one. I didn’t go very far, I stayed mostly around here close to the ramp so I was able to have a line in the water and fortunately it paid off for me.” Sai Brandon. Brandon is also a Triton Gold member so he will take home a bonus check from Triton worth another $500.00. Well done Brandon!
In second for the boaters, TJ Free of Pickensville, AL, landed a five-bass limit weighing 15.97 pounds. He collected a check for $700.00.
“I caught them about an hour after take-off and ground it out staying here pretty close to the ramp. Another hour later and I was done. I only had 5 keepers and 2 shorts all day. The sun is out now but man, I’m glad it didn’t show itself earlier today because it would have been the end of my bite.” Said Free.
Mitch Crane of Columbus, MS took third for the boaters with five bass weighing 15.35 pounds to earn $500.00.
“It didn’t take me long to get my limit today. I caught most of my fish early. I caught my 5 pounder around 9:15 and figured I had to swing for the fences. I made a long run that cost me about 2 hours and it didn’t quite pay out. I was flipping a speed craw. My Coangler did a great job today." Said Crane.
Finishing fourth, Steve Williams of Columbus, MS had a five-fish limit with of 14.65 pounds.
Sawyer Spark of Summit, MS rounded out the top five boaters with five bass weighing 14.28 pounds.
The biggest bass for the boaters was also caught by Bolton earning him another check for $450.00.
In the Co-Angler Division, Tommy Reynolds of Columbus, MS won with three bass going 7.98 pounds. He earned a check to put in his pocket for $850.00.
“We made a long run… All the way to Pratt. I caught fish on a buzzbait and a rat today. I had my limit by 10:00 and was able to cull a couple times to get what I had but I got to tell you, I didn’t think I would win. That’s for sure.” Said Reynolds.
Taking second for the co-anglers, Andrew Gordon, also from Columbus, MS brought in a two bass limit weighing 7.10 pounds. He collected $250.00 for the effort.
“I caught my fish on topwater. I fished with Mitch today and we had a lot of fun taking turns with the net. When I caught my big fish, I didn’t have to say anything because he heard it hit and was on the back deck with me before I could even holler for the net. Without that fish I wouldn’t be up here right now. 4.50 pounds was a huge help only having 2 keepers.” Said Gordon.
Daniel Corkern of Florence, MS placed third among the co-anglers with three bass going 5.63 pounds to earn $200.00
In fourth place among the co-anglers, Greg Bentley of Hattisburg, MS brought in three bass for 4.83 pounds. T
homas Smith of Pearl, MS finished in fifth place with two bass at 4.39 pounds.
The biggest bass for the co-anglers was caught by 2nd place finisher Andrew Gordon weighing in at 4.50 pounds. His bass gave him another check for $115.00
