Holsapples Take the Win on Kentucky Lake
Another great day to be fishing on Kentucky Lake on Sunday, April 2. Twelve teams enjoyed perfect fishing conditions, sunshine, and fellowship. Some fantastic fish were caught as the twelve teams brought in 26 total fish, all being released alive and well to do battle another day.
Jay and Shari Holsapple lead the way with a five bass limit weighing 23.36 pounds. Jay and Shari are veterans on Kentucky Lake and said this was the largest limit they have ever weighed in a tournament. These fish were caught on shallow rocky banks on jigs. They had their limit by 9:00 AM and then culled several fish as the water warmed throughout the day. Jay had the Men’s Big Bass with a 6.29 giant. Shari was not far behind with her 5.96 largemouth, taking the Lady’s Big Bass. They collected a payday of $660 for their efforts.
In second, Eddie and Tammy Barclay weighed a five fish limit of 21.20 pounds. Their largest fish of the day was a 5.23 pounder. The Barclays caught their fish on rocky secondary points on shaky heads. The Barclays took home a check of $360 for their days’ work.
Cory and Secret York, a mother and son team, caught 17.83 pounds with a big fish of 4.63 to claim third place.
We had a Father/Daughter team in the tournament. Duane and Gabby Bowling. Gabby is a 13 year old young lady fishing in her first tournament ever, with plans to join her high school fishing team and then college. “Fishing with my father in the ABA Couples Tour is very special to me and a good place to gain experience and learn new techniques.” She had a nice fish of 3.04 pounds. Great start Gabby!
After fishing all day, the anglers celebrated with drinks and snacks at the weigh-in, carefully watched by Division 8’s mascot, and honorary weigh master “Daisy”. Draw prizes were awarded for two teams that did not finish in the money.
Our next tournament will be held on Kentucky Lake at the Paris Landing Ramp on April 30th. We will launch at 6:30 AM and weigh-in at 2:30 PM. We will be at the ramp for boat check and late registrations at 5:30 AM.
