Rodriguez Wins on Chesapeake
Daniel Rodriguez of Monkton, Maryland won the American Bass Anglers Ram Truck Open Series North East Region tournament, held June 18th on the Chesapeake Bay.
Running out of Anchor Boats Marina in the town North East, Maryland, Daniel caught five bass weighing 23.16 pounds. He anchored his bag with a 5.47-pound kicker. "I started out in the grass throwing a top water, but with the high pressure and clear skies I went to flipping docks for the rest of the day. I was flipping a homemade jig that I have used for years on this body of water. I lost a couple of good ones but I’m really happy with the outcome. There are a lot of good fisherman out here and it’s tough to win." Rodriguez said. For the Boater division victory, Rodriguez took home a check for $5,000.
In second place for the Boaters, Mike A. Moran of Ruffsdale, Pennsylvannia landed a five bass limit weighing 18.57 pounds with a 4.70-pound kicker. “I fished the grass flats cranking with a small square bill, a minus one, white and chartreuse” Moran said. He collected $1,080 for the effort.
Tom E. Bateman of Laplata, Maryland took third for the Boaters with a five bass limit of 18.25 pounds. He anchored his catch with a 7-pound kicker which also was the big Bass for the Boaters.
“I fished the grass flats with a red senko and a small red and silver popper.” Bateman said. Bateman took home $720 for third place and $440 for the Big Bass. Bateman also took home a new Revo SX reel valued at $160 for catching the big bass of the tournament on his Abu Garcia Revo reel.
Finishing fourth, Douglas Reed of Bridgeton, New Jersey landed a five bass weighing 17.78 pounds.
Greg DiPalma of Millville, New Jersey rounded out the top five Boaters with five bass weighing 17.36 pounds.
In the Co-Angler division, Joe Vacanti of Mount Laurel, New Jersey won with three bass weighing 13.42 pounds. He sealed his victory with a 5.33-pound kicker which was also the Big Bass for the Co-Anglers. “This was only my second time on this body of water, so I really can’t say where we were but we were flipping wood. I used a 5-inch green pumpkin pepper weightless senko.” Vacanti said. For his effort he collected $1,470 for the win and $180 for his Big Bass.
Taking second for the Co-Anglers, Michael Slattery of Waldorf, Maryland brought in a three-bass division limit weighing 12.96 pounds including a 4.94-pound kicker. “I was throwing a Strike King worm, Texas rigged with a 1/8th ounce weight pegged. We were out on the grass flats back and forth all day." Slattery said. He collected $504.50 for the effort.
Robert Reid Jr of Clinton, Maryland placed third among the Co-Anglers with three bass weighing 10.68 pounds to earn him $336.50.
In fourth place among the Co-Anglers, Randy S. Walsh of Stafford, Virginia brought in three bass weighing 9.79 pounds with a 3.79 kicker.
Rounding out the top five was Ronald Tracy of Marlton, New Jersey with three bass weighing 9.68 pounds topped by a 3.81-pound kicker.
Slated for September 10th & 11th, the next tournament will be the two-day Area Championship held on Raystown Lake out of Seven Points Marina. At the end of the season, the best anglers from across the nation advance to the 2017 Ray Scott Championship, slated for Old Hickory Lake in Hendersonville, TN in April of 2017

R. V. Mann Jr. wins on Lake Gaston
R. V. Mann Jr., of Whitkers, North Carolina won the AFT Division 17, North Carolina Central tournament on Lake Gaston. The event was held on Lake Gaston on 17 November 2018, launching out of Salmon Landing (Little Stonehouse Creek) off of 903 in Littleton, North Carolina. It was a tough day of fishing starting off in the lower 30’s, warming to around 55 in the afternoon.
Kerry and Heather Wilson win on Lake Jordan
ATHENS, Ala. – Kerry and Heather Wilson won the American Couples Series, operated by American Bass Anglers, Central Alabama Division 1 tournament, held November 10, 2018, on Lake Jordan. Running out of the Bonnor’s Landing, the team caught 5-bass weighing 10.31-pounds. For the victory, they earned a check for $405.00. The Wilson’s caught their fish on swim jigs.
