Tom Sweeney Wins on Lake Zoar
Tom Sweeney won the Ram American Fishing Tour presented by American Bass Anglers, Connecticut Division 6 tournament, held May 14th on Lake Zoar. Running out of the State ramp landing near the town of Southbury CT, the Glastonbury angler caught his limit of five bass weighing 9.24 pounds. The day proved to be a challenge with dense fog the first couple of hours in the morning followed by high bright blue skies for the rest of the day. Lake Zoar upheld its reputation as a small bass fishery as the weights were low, but everyone except two anglers caught fish. Tom caught most of his fish on crankbaits and paying close attention to small details. For the victory he took home a check for $425.
In second among the competitors, John Ogolik from Terryville Connecticut caught his limit of bass weighing 7.30 pounds. He pocketed a check for $212.
Taking third place, Leon Dykas of Torrington, Connecticut caught four bass weighing 6.53 pounds due mainly in part to his 3.63 pound largemouth which turned out to be the big fish of the day. Leon indicated he caught all of his fish on very small finesse plastics utilizing a “special” presentation method.
The next division 6 tournament will be held on May 21, 2016 at Highland Lake near Winsted, Connecticut. For more information about this Division and future events visit www.americanbassanglers.com or contact the local Director for Connecticut, Tom Dupuis at 860-583-2959.
