Victoria and Dale Goff Land Clarks Hill Victory

Twenty-one teams showed up for the November 7th South Carolina American Couples Series tournament on Clarks Hill. The weather cooperated nicely as the forecasted all-day rain did not develop. There were only brief periods of rain with mild temperatures. Rain earlier in the week brought the lake level up several feet.

The changing conditions did not deter Victoria and Dale Goff from landing a solid five fish limit at 11.8 pounds. Their first place sack came down lake on points from 15 to 25 feet of water with Zoom Baby Brush Hogs.  Victoria’s three pounder was the key to their success.

Donna and John Branstetter claimed second place with five fish at 10.1 pounds. Their fish came shallow in creeks using Texas rigged worms and spinnerbaits. Sheri and Lorne DeBord placed third with five fish weighing 9.5 pounds. Their limit was caught on ledges with jigs in creek arms. They also capitalized on surface schooling during the day.  Lorne’s 4.5-pounder anchored their big bag. Susan and John Mills weighed an 8Ameri.8 pound five fish limit for forth place. They culled through 10 keepers during the day using lipless crankbaits early, then shakey-heads and Texas rigged Ol’ Monster worms later.

Candace Veal took Ladies Big Bass honors with a hefty four pound bass.  She caught her prize winning fish in waters of 10 feet using a Zoom Magnum Shakey-Head worm.  Cindy McCord was close behind Candace with a 3.6-pounder.

John Branstetter and Don Goodfellow tied for Men’s Big Bass. Their fish both weighed in at 4.7 pounds.  John caught his fish on a 3/8-ounce spinnerbait in 2 feet of water. Don caught his against brush with a shallow running crankbait.

Janette and Charles Rogers were recognized for the number of fish caught during the day.   They reported a “slow” practice day on Friday, but on tournament day, they gave up counting after catching 30 keepers fishing creeks with shallow plastic lures.

There were 8 new teams for this event.  These included two father-daughter teams:  Joe Richardson and his daughter Rachel, Scotty Bartley and daughter Morgan. Both daughters reported having a good time with their dads.  Jaris McGee partnered with his Mom, Sherri. Other new teams included Julie and Bill Hunter, Dana and Robert Napier, April and Gary Michaud, and Cindy McCord with David Holland. Myra and Danny Taylor routinely fish the Georgia Couples Division joining the South Carolina Couples for this event.

Last year’s team of Kim Bryant and Owen Jepsen are now Kim and Owen Jepsen. They tied the knot this summer.  Congratulations!

Thanks to our local sponsors, Strickland Marine, Yo-Zuri lures, Elta MD sunscreen and Choo-Choo lures all South Carolina Division team went home with a proze.

ALX Rods and Kissel Krafts Custom Rods are new sponsors for the 2016 season. They will each award a new fishing rod to South Carolina’s Men’s and Ladies big bass caught in the 2016 season.
