ABA COUPLES SERIES
Kentucky Lake

The Kentucky Lake Division of the ABA Couples Series completed its last tournament of 2018 on August 5th.  We had 14 teams launch at safelight from the Big Bear Ramp.  It was warm, humid, and clear.  It was another tough day, as it seems to have been all year on our great lake.  Ten of the fourteen teams weighed in a total of 18bass for 59.03 pounds.  All bass were all released alive and well.  We paid out three places for a total of $1,190.00, which included big bass for both men and women.

ABA COUPLES SERIES
Kentucky Lake

It was a hot, humid and at times stormy summer day on Kentucky Lake for the July 15 ABA Couples Series event.  I think those conditions kept many competitors home as we had our lowest turnout of the year.  Only 10 teams launched at 5:30 AM.  Five of the ten boats weighed in a total of 12 bass for 37.43 pounds.  We paid out two places for a total of $850.00, including big bass for both men and women.

ABA COUPLES SERIES
Kentucky Lake

It was another beautiful summer day on Kentucky Lake, June 24, 2018 for the ABA Couples Series.  There was lots of sunshine and a slight breeze, perfect conditions for the legendary ledge fishing on this lake.  The air and water temperatures were in the high 80s. Seventeen teams launched at 5:30 AM to conquer those ledges.  As usual, the bass cooperated with some competitors, while ignoring the efforts of others.  Ten of the 17 boats weighed in a total of 25 bass for 79.01 pounds, 23 of which were released alive, healthy and happy.  We paid out four places for a total of $1,435, including big bass for both men and ladies.

Cory and Meaghan York Take Couples win on Kentucky Lake

It was one rough day on Kentucky Lake, June 3, 2018 for the ABA Couples Series. The wind was in excess of 20 mph most of the day and the rollers were nearing 5 feet nearly all day.  Eighteen very good and determined teams were up to the challenge.  Other than the wind it was a beautiful day.  The air and water temperatures were in the low 80s.  The bass were in a biting mood if you could locate them!  The wind made that very difficult for many.  Thirteen of the eighteen boats weighed in a total of 28-bass for 91.19-pounds, all released alive, healthy and happy.  We paid out four places for a total of $1,530, including big bass for both men and ladies.

Jay and Shari Holsapple Take Couples win on Kentucky Lake

It was one tough day on Kentucky Lake, May 20, 2018 for the ABA Couples Series. Seventeen very good teams worked hard to overcome the slow bite this day.  The water temperature was in the high 70s to low 80s.  The air temperature reached 90. The bass were in a cranky (no pun intended) mood.  They were in transition from the spawn to their summer pattern and the results were actually shocking.  This was not your typical late May bite for this great lake.  Of the seventeen boats, ten weighed in a total of only 14 bass for 45.01 pounds, all released alive and well to battle us another day.  We paid out four places for a total of $1,445, including big bass for both men and ladies.

Cory and Meagan York Take the win in Kentucky

ABA Couples Series on Kentucky Lake got off to a very cold start in 2018!  Sunday, April 8 the water temperature was in the mid-40s and the air temperature was in the upper 20s at launch and barely reached the 40s by weigh-in.  Fourteen teams braved these extreme fishing conditions with mixed results.  Not many fish were caught, but some high quality fish made it to the scales.  Eight of the fourteen teams brought in only 14 total fish for a total weight of 53.79 pounds, all being released alive and well to do battle another day.

Cory and Meagan York mastered the conditions, the lake and the field with a runaway victory.  They had the only 5 bass limit weighing 19.76 pounds.  Their catch was anchored by a 6.42 largemouth.  The Yorks only had 7 bites all day fishing swimbaits and rattletraps primarily on main lake points.  Cory and Meagan took home a well-earned $550 for their day’s work.
