What Kenneth does for a living:
Retired
What you should know about Kenneth:
I am a retired from the military (U.S. Army ) and retired from teaching Highschool in North Carolina.
How Kenneth started fishing
My Father started me fishing at our local pond when I was 5 years old. I had a friend at Fort Smith Arkansas who introduced me to bass fishing by taking me to Lake TenKiller and teaching me how to fish for Bass at night with Jig and Pigs and large Worms from sundown to sunup. He then got me into Team Tournament fishing.
Aspirations or goals with fishing
Catch a quick limit of keepers when possible and then change tactics to try to catch some kicker fish.
Favorite way to fish
Swimbaits
Most exciting fishing experience
Catching a 10 lb 3 ounce Largemouth Bass on a dropshot with 8lb test on a 4 inch dropshot worm at lake Harris in North Carolina.
How Kenneth preps for a tournament
Check my line and change out any that needs to be replaced, check my hooks for sharpness and resharpen or replace. Since I am retired now I pre-fish the upcoming lake on a Tuesday or Wednesday before the Tournament.
Three favorite search baits
Swimbait, Rattletrap, and Whopperplopper.
Best tournament finish and what you did that day when you were fishing.
An old MBAA Tournament At Hillsdale Lake in Kansas back in the early 1990's that I won with over 17 lbs. The second place fisherman that day had 10lbs. The Lake was very muddy and my non-boater and I had no fish by 9am. We moved to a bridge rip rap and I tied on a Gary Yamamoto Chartreuse 5inch Hulu Grub on a hunch that it might work in the muddy water, I had fished the Hulu Grubs in GreenPumpkin, and Watermelon Red in the past and had success on rip rap but I bought the two bags of Chartreuse grubs the week before just to try them out, and I started to catch one or two good fish on each pass down the 75 yard stretch of rip-rap. By noon I had a limit and I shared my grubs with my non-boater who ended up finishing in third place.
Most challenging part of tournament fishing
Not fishing to fast.
When tournaments don't go my way
I slow down and scale down my baits to try to catch some fish and rebuild my confidence.
Advice to give to an aspiring tournament angler:
Be patient and fish the way you are most comfortable fishing, but do not be afraid to try other methods if you are struggling that day.
