How Scott started fishing

  I started young,Grandfather took me trout fishing in Missouri. I moved to Texas around age 5 and discovered some stock tanks and gravel pits close to home. Thats where I learned to fish for bass, crappie ,bream, and lots of carp.

  I was 15 when I entered my first tournament,a friend and I had big plans to win $1000. We got crushed, but I was amazed at what I saw at weigh-in and wanted to figure out how they caught em so good.

 

 

Aspirations or goals with fishing

Same as most, do better than before,learn from your mistakes, and do the right thing more than the wrong thing. Win when the oppurtunity presents itself.

Favorite way to fish

I guess it changes with the fish. I like to sight fish,but I am glad when its over. I like to fish deep, but love the fall because they get shallow and bite. I like to improve on all techniques and you only have small windows for certain patterns. Overall I would rather stay shallow.

Most exciting fishing experience

Winning The Grand Slam Championship on the Tom Bigby waterway in Mississippi with no practice and only fishing off of what I could recall about it from a BASS tournament I competed in five or six years before. I turned the wrong way on day one and ended up finding the area I won it on by remembering an area I saw on Google earth. The water and the fish changed every day. It was interesting,stressful, and on the third day while getting on plane to go in I threw an ear off a prop, I thought the engine was blown. I decided to keep on plane and hope it made it in. If I had stopped, I would not have been able to plane off again and would have lost.

How Scott preps for a tournament

Consider the time of year and do what makes sense. If I am not familiar with the lake or river I will research it online. Google Earth will show you some neat stuff.

Advice to give to an aspiring tournament angler:

Learn to catch fish on your own. Its OK to learn things from people willing to help, but dont become dependant on info.

Some shared general bass fishing techniques for people just getting into the sport

Start with a basic Texas rigged worm and learn how to use it. That is a good base for anyone to start with. It will catch em year round.
