What you should know about Stephen:

I started tournament fishing on a consistant basis in 2004. Prior to that, I was a weekend guy who sat on the bank. I dont travel too far from Texas to fish. We have some of the best lake in the world here. Falcon is the ovious lake that comes to mind, but Choke Canyon is my go to lake.

How Stephen started fishing

Aspirations or goals with fishing

Tournament fishing is a fun hobbie. Fising fulltime is not a goal of mine. I think many people dont realize how much time you spend on the road when your fising tours. There were several years I fished ABA, Bass Champs, Budlight, Media, and several other local trails in Texas. Just the amount of time spent on that is enough for me. Now I focus on ABA, and my local bass club, and a select few big bass tournaments, usualy held on Lake Fork, Texas.

Favorite way to fish

Crank bait! I will throw a DT-6 all day! Bluegill color is outstanding in south Texas lakes.

Most exciting fishing experience

Falcon Lake in February 2010. Caught two 30 pund limits. I have never done that anywhere else.

Choke Canyion in March 2011. Caught my biggest bass in an ABA tournament; 11.77 lbs. My only double diget ever.

How Stephen preps for a tournament

I fish a lot of the same lakes, so I usualy dont prefish those lakes. I will prefish a new lake I have never been on.

Google Earth! Best prefishing tool ever on a lake you have never been on. Gives you some ideas as to where to start.

Three favorite search baits

On a new lake I have never been on, I throw a lot of crank baits so I can cover as much new water as I can.

Go to the local marina/tackle store and see what baits are selling on the lake. A locally owned tackle store is not going to carry baits that don't sell or produce fish.

Best tournament finish and what you did that day when you were fishing.

Most challenging part of tournament fishing

When tournaments don't go my way

Advice to give to an aspiring tournament angler:

Time on the water! Nothing replaces time spent on the water.

Dont depend so much on your electronics. I am old enough to remember paper graphs and we used flashers.

As a kid, I learned more about bass fishing, by spending time on the water with my grandfather. His generation had to learn fish patterns and how to find fish. He taught me so much about bass fishing!
