How Gilbert started fishing

My grandfather taught me as a child, saltwater was my first passion. I still fish the salt, but I love chasing bass!

Aspirations or goals with fishing

My goal is to get some of my HS anglers to the collegiate level. As for my fishing, I'm just living the dream!

Favorite way to fish

Shallow water, flipping, pitching docks, cranking, fishing grass.

Most exciting fishing experience

Winning 2nd with my first double digit 10.24 in the 2012 Sealy Big Bass Splash on Sam Rayburn.

Catching my new PB 12.06 and it becoming a new lake record for Lake Lavon.

How Gilbert preps for a tournament

Continuously, always going through tackle, researching google earth, and time on the water.

Three favorite search baits

Vibrating Jig, Keitech swimbait, squarebill

Best tournament finish and what you did that day when you were fishing.

Most challenging part of tournament fishing

Weather

When tournaments don't go my way

During a tournament I get down, so I take a minute and revert back to my strength and get after it.

Advice to give to an aspiring tournament angler:

TOW (time on the water) you only get better. Take time prep your tackle, and get organized. Stick to the basics!

Some shared general bass fishing techniques for people just getting into the sport

When all else fails, throw a shakey head or a wacky worm!
