What you should know about John:

I enjoy fishing, hunting and motorcycle riding.

How John started fishing

My stepfather was an outdoorsman when he wasn't driving trucks. When my kids were born, and got of age, I see why he only took us a couple times a year. Tangled lines and somebody getting hooked. However, that tug is a drug and I love it.

Aspirations or goals with fishing

Fish Professionally and teach

Favorite way to fish

Topwater frog fishing!

Most exciting fishing experience

Pre fishing Lake Eufaula for a fishing tournament i caught back to back six pounders within 25 yards of bank.

How John preps for a tournament

Research,  watching videos of previous events on a particular lake. Use my electronics to map out potential fishing locations. Day of the tournament,  I leave it all on the field!

Three favorite search baits

Square bill, spinner bait and soft plastics.

Best tournament finish and what you did that day when you were fishing.

1st place, fished isolated patches of grass. Swim jig and soft plastics.

Most challenging part of tournament fishing

Getting ready! Bringing to much tackle.

When tournaments don't go my way

Regroup and slow it down. Grab a Snickers Bar and get it together!

Advice to give to an aspiring tournament angler:

Learn as much as you can from others and mix a little of what you learn with your fishing habits. Go out and fish with people whom love to fish, be a co-angler for a while, it's a blast!

Some shared general bass fishing techniques for people just getting into the sport

Shaky head fishing will help you build confidence in your fishing skills. Once you feel that you have mastered it, move on to other techniques.
