What Calvin does for a living:
What you should know about Calvin:
How Calvin started fishing
My dad introduced me to the sport of fishing at a young age. As a child, I went fishing whenever there was an opportunity.
Aspirations or goals with fishing
I plan to continue to fish smaller local tournaments eventually navigating my way to fish competitively at the professional level.
Favorite way to fish
Tough question! I have times where I like flipping and pitching a jig or Texas rigged creature bait. I also enjoy using lipless crankbaits or square bill crankbaits.

How Calvin preps for a tournament
To prepare for a tournament I try to obtain as much information about the location I can by reading about previous tournaments and fishing reports. Sometimes a simple internet search can have very valuable information. If I am able to pre-fish the location, I try to get in a session or two. I am looking for different approaches that could potentially work during tournament time.
Three favorite search baits
Sexy Shad - Lipless Crankbait
White - Chatter bait
Square Bill Crankbait
Best tournament finish and what you did that day when you were fishing.
My best tournament finish was a smaller local tournament. The conditions were cloudy and not a lot of wind. I decided to throw an all-white chatter bait with a white trailer. I caught 2 fish on back to back casts to start. As the day went on it got tougher to get a bite so I switched to a jig and slowed it down before catching my final fish to win.
Most challenging part of tournament fishing
I find the most challenging part about tournament fishing is leaving your local fishing store without purchasing the whole store. I may be exaggerating but I have about one hundred scenarios playing out in my mind while picking up what is suppose to be just a couple items before tournament day.
When tournaments don't go my way
When tournaments have not gone my way I usually try to make it a point to go back and fish the spots again that day or in the very near future. I find that I usually catch a few fish or a big one and wonder why I could not get on that patter during the tournament. The key is to make adjustments and have a short memory and continue to work and develop your skill set.
Advice to give to an aspiring tournament angler:
Some shared general bass fishing techniques for people just getting into the sport
In my opinion, just start somewhere! Let me elaborate. Coming into the sport of fishing you will hear start with plastic worms and then move to other baits. In a way, this can be helpful to start off basic and then moving on to other lures. I feel if you start with something like search baits then you will not have to fish as slow and have more potential of getting into some serious fishing action. Another helpful tool is watching Youtube videos of pro's and adapting some of their techniques.
