What Michael does for a living:
I am a Retired Police Officer since May of 2004.
What you should know about Michael:
First is I am a child in of god, I hold my faith and my walk thru life in him. I am a man of the integrity and value. I believe that what you do when know one else is looking Is a high and tough standard to do.
I was injured in May of 2004 as a police officer. I suffered a TBI ( Tramatic Head Injury) and had to relearn to walk, talk and thing in life that I took for granted. My life s a truly a great testimony and I am great full that I walk the journey of that and would do it all of over again to get to,were I am today.
I am married to great Christian women and have a 12 year old daughter. They are my gift from god.
How Michael started fishing
I started in 2011 after my brother Matthew took me out and it ended my life of addiction to alcohol that I battled after my accident. I have been clean ever since that day. Fishing is my gift that god gave me that I did not know I had.
Aspirations or goals with fishing
To win I am very competitive with myself.
Favorite way to fish
I am from east Texas and fished caddo lake so I am a power fishing guy and love frogging and flipping anything I can. I have since like finnese fishing and love to throw chatter bait and square bills. I try to adapt to the lake and I always match the hatch. I am a basic color guy.
Most exciting fishing experience
Winning my first tourney in east Texas in the first club I was in called east Texas bass and badges. Me and my partner took 1 place and I got Big Bass of event. Brought home 400$. It was at lake of the pines.
How Michael preps for a tournament
A lot of homework I take weather and lake condition for the past few weeks in adavance and really keep eye on the pressure and actually kept one and n my boat. I look at contours of the lake. I also take a few day and use my side view imagine and find brush piles and rocks and good drop off. I just find good spots and fish the conditions and water conditions for that day. I also take the lake levels from the past week and see if it is up or down or if it has had no change.
Three favorite search baits
Best tournament finish and what you did that day when you were fishing.
1st place and big bass Lake O The Pines
i was using a 1/4oz white chatter bait with a berkly havoc 4in grass pig as trailer was cranking it over Lilly pads and and under them. Also a Berkeley havoc The Jerk green pumpkin with a dipped chatruse tail weightless was jerking it erratically over lillypads and hydrilla.
Most challenging part of tournament fishing
To me is sticking to my game plan that I have prepared for that tourney I sometimes go off track and when I do I usually donít have a good day. And being consistent.
When tournaments don't go my way
Nothing I fish the best I can and if you lose, you just got out fished. I just let it go.
Advice to give to an aspiring tournament angler:
practice practice study and be a fish think like a fish. Do the small things think of new ways to fish donít do what everyone else does be unique and fish that way. Bass are smart.
Some shared general bass fishing techniques for people just getting into the sport
I think having to much Stuff on your boat is confusing. I have 3 bait casting reels and a spinning reel and use only Berkeley products that way I know how to fish them an I am consistent with them.
