Catching catfish in my grandfather's pond.  I had to find the cane pole in the barn, find bait and figure out how to take the fish off the hook while my grandfather worked in the fields.

I would like to win a major pro am event and fish professionally

I like it all but prefer to be away from the bank

How James preps for a tournament

I try to get 3 days of prefishing in for each event

Best tournament finish and what you did that day when you were fishing.

I won a regional championship as a co angler.  I fish targets behind the boat that the boater missed and threw topwater while he flipped


Most challenging part of tournament fishing

Decisions on the water when the first 3 locations you fish are empty.  Where do I go ;now?


When tournaments don't go my way

Keep fishing and make sure you stay in high percentage areas


Advice to give to an aspiring tournament angler:

Every tournament is a learning experience if you keep asking yourself the right questions.


Some shared general bass fishing techniques for people just getting into the sport

You can go wrong throwing a fluke with a nail wait.  There are so many ways to fish it that cover the entire water column.
