Computer Engineer

What you should know about Monty:

If it involves being outdoors, I like doing it.

How Monty started fishing

I started fishing with my grandfather, when I was about 4-5.  The tournament thing started when my brother talked to me about his tournament experiences.  I fished my first ABA event in 2012 and have been hooked ever since.

Aspirations or goals with fishing

Continue grow my experience and improve as tournament angler.  I enjoy the competition aspect of tournament fishing driving you to get better on the water.  I would like to one day qualify for the elites, but do not see fishing for a living as an option.  Fishing the Bassmaster Classic or the Forest Wood Cup is definitely a dream goal.

Favorite way to fish

Squarebills and big worms.  They are my confidence baits when nothing else is working.

Most exciting fishing experience

Anytime I get to fish with my brother or other family.

How Monty preps for a tournament

Few days before, the deck of the boat gets covered with rods and tackle.  Restring and restock, then pack it all back up and head for the water.

Three favorite search baits

square bill, square bill, sqaure bill

Best tournament finish and what you did that day when you were fishing.

Most challenging part of tournament fishing

Consistently finding good fish.

When tournaments don't go my way

Have a cold beverage and start thinking about where the next one is.

Advice to give to an aspiring tournament angler:

Try to learn something each time your are on the water.  Whether it be what the fish are relating to or a particular way to present a bait.  Every little thing can make a difference.
