What you should know about Russell:

How Russell started fishing

I started fishing from the banks of Hiawassee Lake and Campbell Cove Lake with my dad since I have memories.  I was introduced to tournament bass fishing by my uncle during my teens.

Aspirations or goals with fishing

I want to promote the sport.  Some of lifes greatest memories are made with a rod in your hand!

Favorite way to fish

Either deep cranking or c-rigging in the middle of the summer.  I also like flipping shallow banks.  Flipping seems to be some of the most exciting fishing ever, regardless of fish size!

Most exciting fishing experience

Catching a 10-pounder on leave.

How Russell preps for a tournament

The honest answer is I usually don't get any time to actually prep, so the night before I make a tennative plan and really, on tournament day, just "go for it."

Three favorite search baits

Swim Jig

Crankbait

Spinnerbait

Best tournament finish and what you did that day when you were fishing.

My best tournament finish was my first win in a local club tournament in 2012 on Falls Lake, NC.  It was my first win.  I started early in the day cranking and caught my bigger fish (only two of them), and when the bite slowed, I switched to a shakey head and limited out.  I caught 6 fish the whole day, but one was too short to weigh!

Most challenging part of tournament fishing

Consistency and not allowing yourself to become frustrated.  You must understand that, statistically speaking, you're going to lose more times than you win.  Having fun becomes challenging sometimes.

When tournaments don't go my way

See above.

Some shared general bass fishing techniques for people just getting into the sport

Practice and experiment.  Don't get wrapped up in what you see the "pros" doing and thinking that you always have to be doing that.  Figure out what works for you.
