How Kevin started fishing
I've fished since i was a small boy with my grandpa. Got into bass fishing in the early 90's and i've been hooked ever since.
Aspirations or goals with fishing
My #1 goal in any tournament i fish is to put a limit in the boat. I would love to fish a trail at a professional level some day.
Favorite way to fish
Most exciting fishing experience
Any time i have a limit & walking on stage & cutting a check for effort.
How Kevin preps for a tournament
Going over my tackle #1 thing. Making sure line's in good shape & reels are working properly, Then depending on time of yr. it is and what lake i will be fishing then I tie my baits on to how i fish & want to fish that lake.
Sometimes you have to change to something totally different. "that's fishing"
Three favorite search baits
#1 CRANKBAITS, Swimbait, Or Topwater baits
Best tournament finish and what you did that day when you were fishing.
Best finish was 2018 on lake Norman finished 5th in a 2 day championship. I used top water & 1/2oz. Jig both day's
Most challenging part of tournament fishing
Staying focused & not letting mistakes get in your head. Like missing fish when you get bit. Fishing will mess with your mind It doesn't matter what level you fish at, But learning how to control it is the key.
When tournaments don't go my way
You have to learn from it and move on to the next one. You will have bad day's & you will have good day's. You should be learning something everytime you are on the water.
Advice to give to an aspiring tournament angler:
Set yourself goal & try to meet those goals if you meet them then set new goals. Fish as much as you can & learn as much as you can.
Never give up on your goal's & dreams. The only one stopping you is you.
Some shared general bass fishing techniques for people just getting into the sport
Just starting out pick a simple bait like a C-Rig learn how to fish it, Then move on to other bait's. The more different type bait's you can fish the better you will be in most situations.
Out of all the bait's you do fish pick one you really like & then master that bait.
