Lake Eufaula Selected for 2010 Team Military Bass Tournament
Athens, Ala...........Announcement came today that Lake Eufaula, otherwise known as the “Bass Fishing Capital of the World”, located in Eufaula, Ala., would be the host city for the 20th annual Military Team Bass Tournament. The week-long event is scheduled for May 2-7, 2010.
“We are thrilled that the anglers of the Military Team Bass Championship will be joining us once again on Lake Eufaula, the Big Bass Capital of the World!” stated Corey Kirkland, Director of Marketing and Communication for Eufaula Barbour County Tourism. “We are excited that they will not only be able to enjoy our incredible fishery, but to experience first-hand the amazing renovations that have been made to Lakepoint Resort State Park. We look forward to another terrific tournament with them and anticipate seeing some great weights”, continued Kirkland.
“Taking our military anglers to such a highly productive lake will make for a great tournament week”, said Morris Sheehan, President of American Bass Anglers. “Lake Eufaula has always been one of those lakes you just had to fish, if you were an avid bass angler. Biologists and anglers agree that these lakes offer the best chance of catching bass weighing 6 pounds or more from south Alabama waters. I feel confident our military anglers will have a great week catching fish and enjoying the camaraderie of their fellow anglers”, concluded Sheehan. |
The Military Team Bass Fishing Tournament began in 1991 for all active duty Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps and Coast Guard, their dependents ages 16 and over (dependents under 18 must fish with a parent or guardian), National Guard, Reservists, DoD Civilians, DoD contractors and retired military.
American Bass Anglers (ABA) originally started as Military Bass Anglers Association (MBAA), in the mid-seventies as a bass fishing tournament trail to promote camaraderie among all branches of the military. Today it recognizes the ‘Angler of the Year’ from each of the military branches as bragging rights for the participants. In 2005, as a way of showing gratitude to active duty and retired military, ABA began offering “Take a Soldier Fishing” events at military installations throughout the country. Since the inception in 2005, over 12,000 military personnel have had the opportunity to spend the day on a lake with appreciative citizens wanting to say, ‘thanks’
