The tournament features 600+ anglers using over 300 boats, which began arriving to the river walk marina, in Decatur, AL at 3:30 this morning. Traffic was not a problem because of the tremendous support of our volunteers, allowing virtually every boat to be put into the water with no time sitting still. At sunlight, there was a special on- the-water flag ceremony paying tribute to the American and Alabama State flags. Also, a tribute to the armed forces with the Army, Navy, Marine, Air Force, Coast Guard, Associate, and Lady Angler flags following. The flags were brought in by water and placed, by color guard, on the bank. This was followed by the National Anthem, which could be heard across the lake. “It was moving how quiet it got during our moment of silence, and then to see so many anglers standing at attention with their hats off to pay tribute to their fallen comrades”, said Kathy Barker of Probass Networks.
To say things ran smooth Wednesday morning would be an understatement. There was beautiful weather, great help, and courteous competitors. The boaters were released one by one promptly after the ceremony, and the fishing began. Weigh in will begin at 3:00 pm today. Wednesday’s results will be posted on the web as soon as they are made official.
