From Division 5, New England East, on May 4, 2014 – Randy Almeida, of Tewksbury, Massachusetts, is one step closer to the AFT National Championship with a first place win in the American Fishing Tour bass tournament held on Wequaquet Lake, Centerville, MA. His five bass weighed in at 13.34 pounds.
Second place went to Toby Slagle who also brought in five bass weighing 13.28 pounds. Third place was Cameron Smith with 10.79 pounds. Big bass was awarded to Toby Slagle who weighed in a 6.00 pound largemouth bass.
Special kudos to Randy, who has fished the ABA for a few years and in winning his first ever American Fishing Tour tournament!!
The top 5 anglers were: 1. Randy Almeida 13.34 Lbs. 2. Toby Slagle 13.28 Lbs. 3. Cameron Smith 10.79 Lbs. 4. George Smith 10.32 Lbs. 5. Louie Bernardo 10.22 Lbs.
Conditions: We had 60 degree air temps w/sunny skies with 20 mph SSE winds. Water temps were in the low 50s.
Winning Strategy: The pattern Randy used was to position his boat in 12 feet of water & fish the 6-10 feet of water break lines with a jerk bait. Jigs were also a bait that helped him score his winning bag.
Next Divisional Tournament: The next tournament for Division 5 will be contested on Mashpee-Wakeby Pond in Mashpee, MA on May 25th, 2014 and will be launched at the state ramp.
