ATHENS, Ala. – Tom Sweeney won the second American Fishing Tour for 20104, presented by American Bass Anglers, Connecticut Division 6 tournament, held May, 3, 2014, on Candlewood Lake.
Running out of the Squantz Pond ramp near New Fairfield, the Glastonbury, Connecticut, angler caught five bass weighing 16.17 pounds. For the victory, Tom took home a check for $318. Tom indicated he caught the majority of his fish on crankbaits.
In second among the competitors, John Dellacamera of N. Branford, Connecticut, caught five bass weighing 15.98 pounds with a 4.24-pound kicker. That 4.24 kicker smallmouth also turned out to be the lunker of the day and he walked away with a check for $160 for both awards.
Taking third place, Don Philpot of Shohola, Pennsylvania, caught five bass weighing 15.00 pounds.
In fourth place Anthony Ell of Stanhope, New Jersey caught five bass weighing 14.59 pounds. Jason Martinelli of Roxbury, Connecticut, rounded out the top five competitors with a five bass limit weighing in at 13.08 pounds.
These anglers accrued valuable points toward the divisional angler of the year title. The points champion from each division will compete in the annual American Bass Anglers AFT Angler of The Year Final Round Fish-Off. In addition, the top 500 anglers from the various divisions will earn the right to compete in the three-day ABA, AFT National Championship tournament.
The next divisional tournament will be held May 17, 2014 on Lake Lillinoah near Bridgewater, Connecticut.
