Mitch Pierson won the American Fishing Tour, presented by American Bass Anglers, New Jersey Division 10 tournament, held April 13, 2014 on Lake Hopatcong.
Running out of Lees Park landing near Mt. Arlington, New Jersey, Mitch Pierson, of Newton, New Jersey, caught five bass weighing 12.50 pounds with 2.87-pound kicker. For the victory Pierson took home a check for $382 and a sponsor provided Columbia fishing shirt. Mitch caught his fish pitching a jig.
In second among the competitors was Lucas Bogosian, of Harrington Park, NJ. Bogosian caught his limit of fish weighing 12.18 pounds. throwing a Rattle Trap in shallow water and pocketed a check for $190 and a sponsor provided Columbia fishing shirt. Lucas also captured “Big Fish” honors with a 3.40 pound chunk and collected an additional $65.
Third place went to Greg Del Russo, of Towaco, NJ, who received a sponsor provided Columbia fishing shirt. Greg weighed in 10.91 pounds.
These anglers accrued valuable points toward the divisional angler of the year title. The points champion from each division will compete in the annual American Bass Anglers AFT Angler of The Year Final Round Fish-Off. In addition, the top 500 anglers from the various divisions will earn the right to compete in the three-day ABA, AFT National Championship tournament.
The next divisional tournament will be held 6-22-14, on Lake Hopatcong out of Lee’s Landing.
The American Fishing Tour offers low cost, close to home bass tournaments that are designed for the weekend angler. All ABA anglers fish for money and points. The points advance the angler to their divisional championship and the top 500 anglers in the US are invited to the American Fishing Tour National Championship.
