Keith Knutson Takes First Place on Potomac

Keith Knutson Takes First Place on Potomac

From Division 11, Maryland, April 5, 2014 Keith Knutson, from Stafford, Virginia, is one step closer to the ABA National Championship taking First Place in the American Fishing Tour bass tournament held on Potomac River this past weekend.  The five bass limit brought in by Keith weighed in at 16.14 pounds. Keith headed north to hit some docks and when that didn’t pan out moved to a flat which normally has grass but not so after this past winter. Still he knew bass should be present and with a persistent cast of his Chatterbait was able to boat some fish in muddied water. By the afternoon the tide started going out, clearing the water, and then was able to catch some better quality fish.

Top 5 Anglers:
1. Keith Knutson          16.14 Lbs.
2. Tom Thompson        13.75 Lbs.
3. Mark Sipos                13.31 Lbs.
4. Charles King             12.15 Lbs.
5. Brett Ewing               10.65 Lbs.

(Top 5: In no particular order) Kieth Knutson, Tom Thompson, Mark Sipos, Charles King, Brett Ewing

The day started with promising weather but changed quickly early in the morning with wind and muddy water conditions. Even with the sun out it felt much cooler and the trick was to find clear water out of the wind unless you had Power Poles.

These anglers are acquiring valuable points to insure their birth in division’s two-day champion and the American Fishing Tour National Championship that will be held this fall.  Their points are also being used to determine the Divisional Angler of the Year. The top angler by points earned in this division will represent the division in the Angler of the Year final round.

Next Divisional Tournament: This division’s next tournament will be April 26, 2014 out of Smallwood State Park.
