Dennis LaGrange Wins D47 Tournament at Lake Ouachita

Dennis LaGrange Wins D47 Tournament at Lake Ouachita

Story by John Simonof

“Brutal.” That is what many competitors stated when they came off the water at the American Fishing Tour Division 47’s fifth qualifying tournament of the 2014 season on Lake Ouachita, January 11, 2014; brutal. A week of frigid temperatures caused ice to form in some parts of the lake dropping water temps into the 30’s, but most of the lake saw mid 40’s. The rain poured down Friday and through the night causing cold muddy water to fill many creeks. But Saturday morning opened to breezy conditions and bluebird skies. The 25 anglers who came out were hoping for a strong bite but it never materialized. Fishing was “brutal”. Only 20 fish crossed the scales for a total weight of 48.56 pounds. No angler weighed-in the five fish limit.

Dennis LaGrange brought in three bass for 12.88 lbs including the Big Bass of the tournament, a 5.29 pound bass and took home $681.00. Dennis caught his fish on an umbrella rig tipped with Kietech swim baits.

Terry Cordum was able to induce three keeper bites for a total weight of 7.58 pounds. Terry gets the “patience” award for the day. He caught his fish using a 1/16oz shakey-head on 8 pound test line to entice bites out of brush piles in 35 feet of water. Terry reeled in $336 for his efforts.

Sean Ingalls rounded out the top three and brought in three fish weighing 7.11 pounds, which was good for $117. Josh caught all his fish on an umbrella rig.

Fourth place was Eric Turner with a 7.02 pound bag, earning him $91. Following in fifth place was Tyler Powell, weighing-in a total of 4.36pounds and netting himself a Norman Lure Gift Pack. And rounding out the top six was Jamey Black, bringing 2.60 pounds across the stage and took home a Norman Lure Gift Pack
