Cliff Thomas Takes First Place at Nickajack

From Division 30 Southeast Tennessee on January 11, 2014  -  Cliff Thomas from Whitwell TN is one step closer to the ABA National Championship with a first place win and $294 in the American Fishing Tour bass tournament held on Nickajack Lake this past weekend. Cliff’s five bass limit weighed in at 15.79 pounds. This was Cliff’s first tournament with division 30 and he wasted no time making his presence known!   Second place went to Gabe Yeargan with a weight of 13.05 pounds. And in third place was Sam Morgan with a weight of 7.80 pounds. Big bass was awarded was to Cliff Thomas for catching a 4.28 pound largemouth.

These anglers are acquiring valuable points to insure their birth in division’s two-day champion and the American Fishing Tour National Championship that will be held this fall.  Their points are also being used to determine the divisional angler of the year. The top angler by points earned in this division will represent the division in the Angler of the Year final round.

The top five anglers were:
1. Cliff Thomas             15.79 Lbs.
2. Gabe Yeargan          13.05 Lbs.
3. Sam Morgan               7.80 Lbs.
4. Mark Riggs                 2.16 Lbs.
5. Garry Bittenbender     1.52 Lbs.

Conditions: Very cloudy with light rain to start the tournament changing to clearing skies and sunny with a high in the high 50’s

Winning Strategy: Cliff’s fish were caught on a jig fished around shallow rocky shoreline.

Next Divisional Tournament: This division’s next tournament will be February 15 on Chickamauga Lake at Chester Frost Park.
