Angel Wins AFT Event on Lake Stockton
ATHENS, Ala. – One of the points leaders, Justin Angel won the American Fishing Tour, presented by American Bass Anglers, Division 126 tournament, held March 17, 2013, on Lake Stockton near Stockton, Mo.
During heavy, intermittent thunderstorms and northeast winds coupled with frosty temperatures, the Willard, Mo., angler won with a five-bass tournament limit weighing 15.38 pounds. For the win, he collected valuable points toward the divisional angler of the year title race.
“Weather was a major consideration,” explained Becky Minor, tournament director. “The rain let up, but lingered in some form the entire day. The wind velocity also let up, but the temperatures held close to 40 degrees all day. All of these conditions made for some difficult fishing.”
In second place, Scott Tassi of Arma, Kan., caught a five-bass limit for 13.16 pounds. Jay Carter followed in third place with 11.95 pounds. Carl Cox landed the big bass, a 7.01-pound largemouth. The anglers named jerkbaits as the hot lure of the day.
The anglers could fish anywhere on the 25,000-area inverted V-shaped lake in Cedar, Dade and Polk counties of the northern Missouri Ozarks. One of the most pristine lakes in the state, it offers anglers about 300 miles of shorelines to fish.
