Phil Morris wins on Lake Greenwood ATHENS, Ala. – Phil Morris of Saluda, SC won the American Fishing Tour, presented by American Bass Anglers, South Carolina Division 96 1-day qualifier tournament, held February 24 2013, on Lake Greenwood, running out of Greenwood State Park near Ninety Six, SC.
Phil caught 5 bass weighing 16.47 pounds which included a 5.82 pound kicker and took home a check for $800. He caught his fish on a crankbait fished around docks in a creek on the middle part of the lake. In second place of these AFT competitors, Curtis Temples of Saluda, SC. Curtis caught 5 bass weighing 15.29 pounds. Curtis was fishing a crankbait around points and any wood he could find on the lower & middle parts part of the lake. His earnings were $508. In third place was Ryan McMurtury of Abbeville, SC. Ryan caught 3 bass weighing 11.20 pounds which included the 8.03 pound tournament big fish and took home a check for $333. Ryan caught the big fish on a jig fished on a rocky point. In fourth place was Joey Miller of Waterloo, SC. Joey caught 4 fish weighing 11.11 pounds and received $129. In fifth place was Sean Anderson of Leesville, SC with 5 fish weighing 10.13 pounds and received $97. Weather was good for this one after 2 days of rain. It started out at 40 degrees with cloudy conditions and was bluebird skies by 11am but 65 degrees by the 3pm weigh-in. The was out of the NW wind of 5 to 10mph. Lake Greenwood was 4 feet below full pool, high 40’s water temp stained on the main lake but a little less stained in the creeks. |
