Justin Angel of Willard, MO won the American Bass Anglers D126 qualifying tournament held on Stockton Lake February 17, 2013. Angel weighed in a 5-fish limit of 18.44lbs anchored by a 7.30lb Big Bass of the tournament and took home $443 for his efforts. He reported catching most of his fish in the morning even though he was expecting the bite to be better in the afternoon.
Second place went to Springfield angler, Jay Carter with a limit weighing 15.7 lbs; 3rd place was Carl Cox of Aldridge, MO, who also weighed a limit that went 14.83 lbs. Several fish in the seven pound range were weighed in including a 7.15 lb bass caught by Erie, KS angler, Eric Craft.
The temperatures for the day ranged from low 30’s to mid 50’s with lots of sunshine and some southerly wind. Anglers reported catching most of their fish on a jerk bait, concentrating their fishing time on the main lake.
Anglers compete for cash, prizes and points which qualify them to fish a 2-day Championship on Stockton in July 2013 and a National Championship on Clarks Hill Lake in Georgia October 23-25, 2013. There will be four more 1-day tournaments and a 2-day Championship held on Stockton Lake.
