Gary Carter Takes First Place at Nickajack

From Southeast Tennessee Division 30, December 8th 2012 - Gary Carter from Dalton, Georgia won the second AFT event of the new season in this division with a first place win and $468 in the American Fishing Tour bass tournament held on Nickajack Lake this past weekend. Gary’s 5 bass limit weighed in at 15.12 pounds. Second place went to Josh Watts with a weight of 14.35 pounds. Third place was Derek Hicks with a weight of 12.29 pounds. The Big Fish award went to Jeff Knight with 4.56 pound largemouth.

These anglers are acquiring valuable points to insure their birth in division’s two-day champion and the American Fishing Tour National Championship that will be held this fall. Their points are also being used to determine the divisional angler of the year. The top angler by points earned in this division will represent the division in the Angler of the Year final round.

The top five anglers were:
1. Gary carter             15.12 Lbs.
2. Josh Watts              14.35 Lbs.
3. Derek Hicks              12.29 Lbs.
4. Garry Bittenbender    9.28 Lbs.
5. Jeff Knight                  6.87 Lbs.

Conditions: Mostly cloudy and mild with a few light showers in the morning. The low was 58 degrees with and afternoon high in the mid to high 60’s. The lake was full and mostly clear with water temps in the mid to high 50’s.

Winning Strategy: All of Gary’s came on a Chatterbait and an AZUMA popper-z fished around shallow submerged grass in 2 to 4 feet of water. The fish seemed to be concentrated around these areas chasing schools of baitfish.

Next Divisional Tournament: This division’s next tournament will be January 19th, 2013 on Chickamauga Lake at Chester Frost Park.
