Brent Chapman, B.A.S.S. AOY
To Be Special Guest For AFT AOY Tournament
Athens, AL - Winning an Angler of the Year title is an accomplishment at any level in tournament bass fishing, but those who have taken the title at the top level of bass fishing have proven they have what it takes to be the best against the world’s best. On Saturday, October 20th, Brent Chapman will be the special guest at the American Fishing Tour “Angler of the Year” Tournament being held on Lake Hudson in Oklahoma. “I know what the guys are going through as they prepare and fish for this prestigious title and am thrilled to get to be a part of it”, said Chapman.
Chapman, who lives in Oklahoma, credits his father with his choice of professions. “He taught me to love the outdoors, and the most important thing about fishing: to be well-rounded. He’s been a great dad and a great role model for me, and I hope to be the same for my son and daughter”, continued Chapman. “For me, fishing is something I love to do, I’m good at it and I love to be outdoors.”
For Brent, the main difference this year compared to other years was his approach to fishing in general. “The biggest thing for me was my involvement in my church and making sure my priorities with fishing were in order. Fishing is a huge part of my life, but there are things that are more important,” added Chapman. His change in attitude towards fishing allowed him to have a greater focus when he was competing.
In addition, he counts organization and physical fitness as other keys to his success this year. In 2011, the season ended early. “So I had months to prepare for the new 2012 season. I spent more time getting all of my tackle and gear organized and working out,” adds Chapman. He feels that a more relaxed and less rushed time preparation period before the start of the season allowed him to plan each event better. As a result, when tournament time came, he was ready. His focus on physical fitness and health also allowed him to be in better shape when he was required to spend weeks on the road and on the water.
Each Division across the US, will be represented by their local "Angler of The Year" to determine the overall winner. This is a winner take-all event, with the “Angler of the Year” winning a 2013 Triton 21XS and Mercury 200 Pro XS Outboard, Carlisle Tires and Wheels, ODYSSEY Batteries, Royal Purple Oil and a MotorGuide Trolling Motor.
The actual competition day will be on Saturday, October 20th, fishing on Lake Hudson and weighing in at Tera Miranda on Monkey Island at 3:00pm. That same day will serve as Registration for all the remaining anglers, also at Tera Miranda Marina. Many activities are planned for families starting at 1:00pm, including vendors of all types and special guest singer, Clint Walker. Everyone is invited out to meet Brent Chapman and cheer on their favorite angler or even their favorite part of the country.
The 2012 National Championship and Angler of the Year Tournament is sponsored by the Grand Lake Association, Tera Miranda Resort, Triton Boats, Mercury Marine, Royal Purple, Angler’s Advantage Insurance, Early Times Kentucky Whisky, Anheuser-Busch, Carlisle Tire & Wheel, Odyssey Batteries, Keep Alive, ProBass Networks, Rejuvenade, US Reel, Simms Outdoors, and MossHawg.
