Tom Thompson Wins On The Potomac River

ATHENS, AL – Tom Thompson won the American Fishing Tour, presented by American Bass Anglers, Maryland Division 11 tournament, held September 9, 2012, on the Potomac.

Running out of Smallwood State Park in Marbury, Maryland, the Falls Church, Virginia, angler caught five bass weighing 14.86 pounds with a 4.94-pound kicker for the Big Bass of the day. For the victory, Tom took home a check. Tom caught his fish on Texas-rigged senkos and tubes fishing boat docks associated with grass in 3-4 feet of water. Tom did real well because the rest of the field felt the tough fishing conditions today. The river had been beat up by another major tournament event of which a Division 11 angler won.

In second among the competitors, Pete Baumgartner of King George, Virginia caught five bass weighing 9.50 pounds. Taking third place, Jerry Jeranka of Dover, Delaware caught 3 bass weighing 6.16 pounds.  In fourth place, Dale Boyle caught three bass weighing 5.74 pounds. John Till rounded out the top five competitors with three bass weighing 5.09 pounds.

These anglers accrued valuable points toward the divisional angler of the year title. The points champion from each division will compete in the annual American Bass Anglers AFT Angler of The Year Final Round Fish-Off. In addition, the top 500 anglers from the various divisions will earn the right to compete in the three-day ABA, AFT National Championship tournament.

The next divisional tournament will be held October 9, 2012 on the Potomac River, out of Smallwood State Park, Marbury, MD.
