Chris Bielert Takes AOY

From Division 6 in Connecticut on 8-11/12-2012  -  Tom Sweeney from Glastonbury is one step closer to the ABA National Championship with a first place win and $412.00 in the American Fishing Tour bass tournament held on Candlewood and Lillinonah Lakes this past weekend. Tom’s two day 9 bass limit weighed in at 24.36. Second place went to Sean Hurley with a weight of 24.29, third place was Chris Bielert with a weight of 22.72. Big bass was also awarded to Tom Sweeney for catching a 4.60 pound largemouth. By completing this two-day Chris Bielert also earned the Division 6 Angler of Year.

These anglers are acquiring valuable points to insure their birth in division’s two-day champion and the American Fishing Tour National Championship that will be held this fall. Their points are also being used to determine the divisional angler of the year. The top angler by points earned in this division will represent the division in the Angler of the Year final round.

The top four anglers were:

Conditions: The first day of the tournament was foggy in the morning, hot and very humid.  The second day started out warm and very humid with overcast skies.  As the day went on the sun came out and it became very hot.  Jet boats and water skiers came out early and were everywhere on the lake for both days.

Winning Strategy: Tom caught most of his fish the first day on a shallow running crankbait fishing in about 4 to 10 feet of water.  Hover he caught his biggest fish on drop shot in about 15 feet.  For day two, Tom caught his fish on various plastics presentations.

Next Divisional Tournament: This division’s next tournament will be an Early Bird for 2013 on October 13, 2012 on Candlewood Lake at Squantz Cove
