Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, Coast Guard, and DoD from New Jersey to California, from Nebraska to Florida all will converge on Louisiana the first week in May.“Enjoying good times with other military men and women who enjoy fishing”, is the sentiment echoed by most who have registered to participate in the 19th annual Military Team Bass Tournament in Alexandria, Louisiana. The tournament, which will take place on the Red River, is scheduled for May 3-9 and promises to be a week of seeing old friends, enjoying the hospitality of Central Louisiana, and friendly competition--or so they say--to win the fishing trip of a life time to Costa Rica!

Recently letter sent into ABA`s Pro-Staff director John Glenn,
John,
My name is Charles Nails and I live in Rainbow City, Alabama on the banks of the Coosa River (Neely Henry). I live in perhaps the greatest fishing region in the USA. Within 40 minutes of my house are Neely Henry, Weiss Lake, Logan Martin Lake and Lake Guntersville. I have fished many trails over the last 25 years and currently fish the Weekend Series as well as the ABA (Division 88 & 29)
I am a teacher and have a wife and two (2) sons. In the spring, my tournament fishing is limited because of soccer and baseball games as well as cub scouts. Because of that, I normally fish as a co-angler in the early spring and a boater after our spring “seasons” are over.

Indian Lake, Ohio - April 18, 2009 -The Indian Lake Chamber welcomed American Bass Anglers and the Toyota Tundra Bassmaster Weekend Series with open arms. This was a wonderful site to hold our first Ohio division tournament. Pre tournament information indicated it should take about 12 to 14 pounds to win this tournament. Come tournament day the bigger fish were hard to find, but lots of small fish did make their way to the scales. There were several smaller events on the lake and lots of pre-fishing pressure in preparation for another large event to be held Sunday kept a lot of pressure on the fish, which was evident at weigh in time. The water temperature was in the mid 50’s and it was a beautiful 70 degree day with light winds with very few clouds.
As the first flight started to check in it was evident that the bite was off and many of the anglers struggled throughout the day. It quickly became evident that is wasn’t going to take much to win this tournament. But true to form, the 2008 Ohio point champion, Ryan Stumpf of Johnstown, Ohio, showed the rest of the field that he is going to be a force to be reckoned with again this year.
Hardin, KY . . . April 19, 2009...Greg Hoskinson of Louisville, KY is another step closer to the Bassmaster Classic with his first place victory in the Kentucky division earning $5,000 in the Toyota Tundra Bassmaster Weekend Series bass tournament held on Kentucky Lake. Hoskinson`s five bass limit weighed in at 20.23 pounds. Hoskinson knew the fish would be shallow and in the bushes looking to spawn and when he could not catch them flipping he turned to a D&S spinnerbait to boat the winning stringer. The winner remarked that his spinnerbait has a tunable titanium wire that puts off a more intense vibration than other spinnerbaits. He landed ten keepers in the backs of shallow pockets and cited that the spinnerbait was the key to his victory.
April 18, 2009, Milledgeville, Ga. USAF SSgt Michael Reid, of Perry, GA, took top honors at the third qualifying event of the Toyota Tundra Bassmaster Weekend Series this weekend, dedicating the win to his Grandfather who passed suddenly just a week prior to the tournament. His First Place victory earned him the guaranteed $5,000 purse plus 200 points toward his qualifying for the Year-end Championship worth over $200,000 and a slot in the prestigious “Bassmaster Classic”.

When getting ready for this event, my husband, Morris, and I planned to arrive at Lake Guntersville early Friday morning. This would allow us a good day of fishing prior to the ABA Couples Division 1 tournament the following day. We got a late start on Friday morning because Morris had to go to the office to take care of some business. When he got home about noon, we packed up the Tahoe, hooked up the Triton and headed to the lake.
On our way into Scottsboro, Ala., we contacted a friend of ours, Gil Summerland. He was coming off the water because of the high waves and wind. He had put in at Waterfront Marina, and since it was on our way, we agreed to meet him there.
