Kevin Thomas wins Tuckertown Lake

Athens, Al -  Kevin Thomas won the American Fishing Tour division 14 Championship on Tuckertown Lake in Richfield, NC with five fish weighing 18.00 pounds held on April 15th 2018.

Sunday’s event was threatened by a looming cold front that promised to bring severe thunderstorms and significant winds, but thankfully the weather held off until late afternoon, long enough for the field to get almost a full day of fishing in without interruption.  Weigh in, scheduled for 3:30 pm was moved up an hour for angler safety because of the severe weather forecast.  Despite the early weigh in, Kevin Thomas of Indian Trail, NC used a buzz bait and a senko to take 18 pounds of largemouth from Tuckertown Reservoir.  He reported that the bites were few and far between, but he was steadfast in executing his plan for the day and it paid off to the tune of $373.00 and another first place finish, his second of the year in division 14.

Don Sprinkle of Lexington, NC took second place with a five fish limit weighing in at 12.75 pounds, worth $153.00.  Don used soft plastics on spawning flats, and a spinnerbait on windy points to bag his limit.  He reported that the fishing was slow enough to enjoy a nice lunch and a few snacks throughout the day without the fish bothering him.

Big bass honors went to William Sipe of Albemarle, NC. He caught a beautiful 5.94 pound largemouth worth $50.00, and he finished in third place with only 3 fish.  He was on the right size fish to challenge for the win, but couldn’t manufacture enough bites to get the job done.

Congratulations to our winners, they earned it.  Division 14 will head to High Rock lake next on April 28th, 2018.  They will be launching out of Southmont ramp at the mouth of Abbotts Creek, just off of NC HWY 8.
