Lake Greenwood Win for the Goodfellows
Seventeen South Carolina Couples teams showed up at Lake Greenwood’s One-Stop Marina early Saturday morning, June 3rd.  A comfortable 65 degree morning led to a 90 degree afternoon as early summer in the South revealed itself.
Martha and Don Goodfellow claimed first place honors with a 5-fish sack weighing 12.3 pounds.  Martha’s 4.8 pounder took Ladies Big Bass honors.  Her big fish was caught with a Zoom Ol’ Monster worm in 5 feet of water.  Of course, Martha had to shamelessly acknowledge the sensitivity of her Kissel Kraft rod and efficiency of her Lews reel in hooking and landing the fish.  Other fish in their sack were caught with a buzzbait, surface “popper,” and worms early in the day.  Martha and Don were particularly surprised that this was their first regular season win in a decade fishing the Couples Series.
Michelle Bryant and Joey Madden took second place with a 5 fish limit at 11.9 pounds.  Their sack included Joey’s Men’s Big Bass weighing 3.5 pounds.  He hooked this fish early in the day with a Texas rigged Zoom Mag II worm in 12 feet of water.
Ashley and Ben Sutton were in third place with an 11.3 pound limit.  Ben said that he was having success with a buzzbait all day long, even with clear skies and mild conditions later in the day!
Two teams tied for fourth place, “just out of the money.”  Sheri and Lorne DeBord and the team of Brooke Mattison and David Chapman had 10.3 pounds.  Sheri’s 3.8 pound “hog” anchored their bag.  Brooke and David said their great sack came largely on Yo-Zuri surface lures.
Tournament and year-end awards were presented at a late lunch at Harris Landing grill, across the street from the launch.  All of the teams participated in the fun and social time.
Victoria and Dale Goff were recognized as the South Carolina Division Anglers of the Year.  This division award is based on the best out of 5 tournament finishes, February through June.  The Goffs had a fantastic season and are in great shape going into the National Championship this fall.  Susan and John Mills were in second place for the season.  Sherri McGee and her son Jaris took third place.
For her 6.1 pound Ladies Big Bass of the year, Victoria Goff was presented a certificate for a Kissel Kraft Custom rod of her choice.  Victoria insisted that it would have “pink” trim.  Craig Sahms was presented with an ALX rod for his 5.7 pound Mens Big Bass of the year.  Thanks to Sunni and Shawn Hendrix for the Kissel Kraft and Jennifer and Alex Dziengielewski for the ALX contributions to the South Carolina Couples.  Both of these awards are for the season big fish for anglers fishing 4 or more tournaments.

Gift packs were available for all of the teams at Lake Greenwood.  A 3DS Yo-Zuri crankbait (a great blueback herring imitation) and Elta-MD sunscreen were the centerpieces of each pack.  Several other creative “special” awards were presented including smallest limit and smallest sack of the season.  Some great drawing prizes were available for the awards including a complete knife set (Cabela’s), auto inflatable Cabela’s life jacket (Lorne & Sheri DeBord), gallons of Mercury oil (Strickland Marine), lure gift pack (Yo-Zuri), hot-cold tumbler (Yeti), electronics screen cleaner (Jervey Eye Group), a gift certificate for “Greenville’s Country Boys”, and a pedestal boat seat (Springfield).  Don Branham also provided a nice prize from “Quality” auto dealer.
